The Blog Dilemma

I told you I'm going to move to a new blog on 2010. I said that I would stick on Blogger. But now, I'm thinking about moving to Wordpress instead.

I still love Blogger; there's no question to that. But there are times when I really having second thoughts on posting certain stuffs because they're… personal. And here in Blogger, you cannot choose which posts could be published in public and in private. Whereas in Wordpress, I could password-protect posts that I don't want everyone to see. Livejournal has this Friends Only but I don't want LJ.

But look, Blogger is more… "customizable". I mean, I'm more free to pick the layout I want and customize it. Wordpress themes are limited, but they're "clean" though.

I was looking for ways to password-protect posts in Blogger. I've found one, though I haven't tried it yet. But what if--just what if--it doesn't work? Should I stick to Blogger? Or move to Worpress instead? Or stick to Blogger and just put the link to Wordpress in my post so it's still password-protected? But won't it be too… "magulo" for the readers?

Urk. So what? Would I choose Blogger or Wordpress? I wanna hear your opinion guys!

Having limited layouts is one of the main reasons why I don't blog on Wordpress. But its pw-protected feature is actually tempting me to move there. I actually thought about having this blogger-wordpress posting, too. But I'm still thinking about it. I don't know. And my posts are too childish and crappy for Wordpress, I believe. ;)

I'm very very tempted to use WP instead now. But the layouts talaga ang problema e. WP layouts is okay naman, clean and nice, but I think it cannot be customized? E ako pa naman si maarte sa layout. Gusto co yung customized yung design ng sidebar, yung signoff, with blink-blink pa. Haha. Kaso, kailangan ko talaga yung PW-protected feature since my blog is too out on the public. Di co naman mapipigil yun.

Don't you think BS-WP posting is such a hassle on readers? Baka nga ganun na lang gawin ko. Kaso, parang magulo e. :<

Why not LJ? It's actually both! Protected posts plus a very flexible customization scheme. Aside from that, you get lots of built-in stuff and community activity, too. It's my favorite blog site! /bias

Here's my in-topic opinions.

For one, I don't recommend doing the tie-in. It's a hassle for you and for the readers but if you're willing to exert the extra effort (and I'm sure most of your readers are, too) then by all means, take the path. :D I actually have a private blog that's only accessible to two other people, and in that blog, since readers and comments aren't exactly my priority, just having a 'private' feature is enough. (Now, if you just want a place to rant away from your main blog, then how about going with this and not linking posts anymore?:D)

Now, about WP customizations, I agree that you're pretty limited compared to Blogger. In WP you need a paid account to activate the CSS. Being in WP for a while now, though, I have to be honest that I'm appreciating the clean look that WP gives me and the widgets are growing on me (aside from the Header, it's what gives personality to your blog's layout). I'm a sucker for clean, minimal layouts and I'm pouring out my CSS frustrations on LJ na lang.

Also, there are layouts in WP where you can change layout properties, aside from customizing the basics.

What you'll miss when you move to WP:
1. No more CSS.
2. No more tagboards.
3. No more background sounds (that I know of).

What you'll gain when you move to WP:
1. Password protected posts.
2. Built-in features (hit counter, link lists, tags, categories, calendars, tweet board, profile widget, etc).
3. No html screw-ups when it comes to layouts.

Thinking now, Blogger doesn't exactly have anything else over WP in terms of features except for the CSS freedom nga. So in case your discovered 'way' of protecting blogger posts doesn't work, you have to choose your priority: to customize or to protect?

If I have to give something that I dislike about WP, it's the 'read more' option. I don't hate it, but I'd prefer the LJ-cut (another reason why I think LJ is the best).

I hope you get to solve your dilemma soon! :D

It's a hassle, yes. I decided I'd just stick to Blogger. I ALMOST got myself a WordPress account yesterday because I found this pretty cool layout (really pretty). But since it's .RAR, I don't know which to put because there were so many... uh... codes. So yea.

@Kriselle:

I don't want LJ. Haha. I don't know if I am just stupid, but I couldn't understand it. I've been trying to change and customize layouts in LJ, but I can't. DX

As much as possible, I wanna keep one blog na lang para dun na lahat.

I'll really find a way to have PW-protect posts in Blogger, as soon as I have time. But as I think more about it, parang gusto ko na talagang lumipat sa Wordpress. Kaso kasi.. =____=

@Ariane & Kriselle:

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna think about it. May halos one month pa naman ako para mag-isip. :)
